American actor, screenwriter, assistant director, and set decorator. He began entertaining around 1919 as part of an acrobatic/tumbling duo with his high school friend Jack Goodrich (who would also work in films as a stuntman and actor in the 1920s and 1930s, and is not to be confused with several other Jack/John Goodriches working in films at the same time). Beginning in silent comedies, Murdock would go on to act in a number of "B" Westerns in the 1930s, often alongside his real-life friend and one-time roommate Bob Steele. He eventually moved behind the camera, finding plentiful work as a set decorator, working in films and later in television in a career that lasted into the early 1970s.
