The film begins with Mary and her father in their kitchen. She is happily wiping up dishes whilst he is down on the floor getting frustrated with his inability to light the stove. Mary (Fontaine La Rue) assists her father (Josef Swickard) by pouring some water into the kettle on the cooker, but this causes a burst of flames to shoot out of the rings. After she picks him up off the floor, he angrily remonstrates with her (like it's somehow her fault?) Elsewhere, two shady-looking gentlemen read a newspaper advert that a "fashionable cook" is sought in a banker's home. |
