American actress. Her father was Roy Lowe Whitney (1875-1937 ), a traveling accounting inspector for a railroad (b.Chicago); and her mother was Ruth Slatterly Myers (1883-1951) of Carthage, MO. They married there in Jan 1902 and divorced in 1903. In March 1909, she married Rodney Pickett Cassil (1853-1916) also from Carthage, in St.Louis, MO. (he was age 56 and she was 25.)
The City Directories and Voter Lists (CA 1911,1912,1913) say Rodney owned a parking garage in Los Angeles and was an "investor". In 1920, his widow (Dorothy's mother), was living was living in Monrovia (L.A. County) as a "proprietor--motion picture" (industry) on her own account and "mtn pic mgr" in the Voter List. Daughter, Dorothy, was age 17 and living with her Myers grandparents in Los Angeles proper. In July 1923, she married Dr.Fremont Alister Cummins (1893-1947), a physician in Beverly Hills until his death. They had a daughter, Sue in 1930. |
