-Impressive cleaned-up version of The Tree In A Test Tube, one of the best prints I have seen - though the final 7 minutes are missing.
-The Paper Hanger's Helper is missing an entire reel of footage.
-Poorly constructed chapter breaks.
-The menu states this is Volume 2; so where is Volume 1?
-No title cards for several of the films.
-The Battle Royal has a voice-over audio, describing the on-screen action.
-The Wizard Of Oz has a Vivaldi audio track over the top of it!
-The inside booklet has mis-printed the information for the Oliver Hardy/Jack Mangan interview on disc 1 (which is listed as disc 3 !!)  The information printed actually relates to One Too Many, which is the next film on the disc.
-The printed label on DVD5 states the incorrect film title of 'Long Came Auntie'.
-Roughest Africa is lacking its original title card and intertitle cards.
-Surprisingly (for Passport Video), there are some half-decent prints of the films in this collection, despite the awful soundtracks.
-All films are watermarked.		 3
  LAUREL AND HARDY - ANTHOLOGY

#IMC512D		   Anthology [40:43]   -A couple of rare interviews with Babe Hardy.
-VHS transfer, with picture and audio below average.
-This documentary was originally released by Simitar Entertainment in 1990.
-The audio has a buzzing sound which can be heard underneath the narration.
-The wavy lines which were a common feature on pre-recorded VHS tapes can be seen at the bottom of the picture.
-Narrated by Arthur Mann.
-Clips used in the film are taken from:
The Flying Deuces,
Atoll K,
Oliver Hardy interview (where Stan keeps interrupting before announcing Ollie is standing on his foot),
Trailer to Nothing But Trouble,
Trailer to Air Raid Wardens,
The Tree In A Test Tube,
Oliver Hardy's interview by Jack Mangan on board HMS Caronia,
Trailer to The Further Perils Of Laurel & Hardy.
Below-par documentary with limited resources to footage from their films.
Some of the narration is incorrect during the film.  It states that footage from "Tree In A Test Tube" was "the only professional film produced featuring Stan Laurel or Oliver Hardy in colour".  What about The Rogue Song then?
The irony of this DVD is that it contains footage from Atoll K which is actually better than most of the prints of the film on DVD!
A semi-documentary look at the careers of Laurel and Hardy, seen through poor quality footage and dodgy audio.  It seems that the company making this film got together all the rubbish they could get their hands on without having to pay too much for it and presented it as a documentary to highlight the work of Stan and Ollie.  It's a blatant misrepresentation of their work.  Any fan not familiar with Laurel & Hardy will be severely misled by this documentary.  It's a shambles.

Uncut, previously-unreleased print of the film.
This is the longest version of the film available with an all-English speaking audio track.
Region-free disc.
An extremely rare opportunity to see the "Atoll K" title card on DVD.
  With the anticipation of a pristine, restored print of the film, the quality is slightly disappointing as the picture is not as sharp as the French/German DVD releases.
The first 52 seconds of the opening chapter features the original soundtrack but has needless advertising logos placed on top of a black screen.
The sleeve says the print has been "digitally remastered".  I guess nowadays you can tack that boast onto just about everything - but what does it actually mean?  In this case it certainly doesn't mean the picture quality of the film.  The same thing goes for releasing a DVD as a "Director's Cut"?  It's false advertising and misleading to the buyer of the product.  A "Director's Cut" of any film is by definition, the film being presented in the original vision of the said director, which is clearly NOT the case here.

FACTS   Double-sided sleeve in English on one side and German on the reverse.
The first 52 seconds of the main feature is a company logo shown in a black screen with soundtrack playing.
This is the longest known print of the film to have been released on DVD.
This is the US-version of the film, which is thought to be complete.
Unique print of the film, which has never been released on any format - including theatrical release.
Over 300 hours were spent in the restoration of the picture for the DVD release.
OPINIONS   The source appears to be the same as the ARTE tv print, a 16mm print.  It looks like they have done a little too much DNR.
The English/German introductions are boring, pointless and uninteresting.
Upon reviewing the DVD for the first time - before I had even got to the opening shot of London I had noted 4 points that I found to be wrong with this disc:
1. The annoying and pointless titles overlayed on the black screen as the original music plays takes away some aspect of originality of the original presentation. This is for 52 seconds! I would prefer to have the black screen and music as was originally intended.  I am wondering if this was done deliberately to preserve some form of copyright on the print so that nobody could redistribute it; almost like a watermark?
2. Although the picture is 4:3, it is shown in 16:9 with the forced black bars on the sides. This is very poor indeed.
3. The title card is shown in freeze-frame (just like many prints of The Flying Deuces on DVD) which would indicate some tampering had been done with editing the credit roll.
4. The picture quality is quite sub-standard.
Based on these observations, I should be clear that I think the DVD is worth the asking price, and we are grateful for its existence/release, but it just feels like it is still lacking in some areas.
NOTES/
SUMMARY		   Many Laurel & Hardy fans were generally quite pleased with this release, but due to personal differences between myself and the distributor, I am unable to offer an unbiased review of this disc.
I was quite critical of this DVD upon its release and had to endure a backlash from certain individuals who felt I was unnecessarily negative.  I stand by my opinion that on the whole I was very disappointed with this DVD.  I have a pristine print of the film with every actor speaking his own dialogue in his native language and when compared to this DVD, it really does expose just how bad this DVD is.
Longer than most prints available on DVD, but the picture quality is lacking in sharpness, which is a shame given the French and German DVDs available.
