| Freckle-faced child actor, who was one of the early members of the Our Gang series of films in the 1920s. In a despicable tragedy, his life was ended at the age of 87 when he was found in the desert 25 miles north of Las Vegas with multiple stab wounds. Charles "Wayne" Crombie, a homeless man whom Smith had befriended, was later found guilty of Smith's murder and sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison. Interestingly, his real name (i.e. the name given to him officially at birth) was J.R. SMITH - the initials being his actual name! |
