Black child actor who was originally the replacement for Matthew 'Stymie' Beard in the Our Gang shorts of the mid 1930s.  In 1935, his 'Buckwheat' character was at first androgynous, wearing pigtails.  It only evolved into being called 'he' a year later.  Later worked as a film lab technician at Technicolor in Hollywood for over 20 years.  He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  When introduced at a Little Rascals reunion in 1980, he received a spontaneous standing ovation; he was moved to tears. He is interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California, USA.
