American comedian actor and director. He was the lead co-star, along with Bobby Burns in a series of comedies at Vim in the mid-1910s as the character Pokes. Babe Hardy co-starred in many of these films. On November 30th, 1912 he, a "photoplayer", married Virginia Coffee Foreman, a school teacher, also born and raised in Philadelphia. Her Dad (Jacob Vickers Foreman 1840-1909) had been a teamster and built a successful hauling company which he left to his children when he died in Jul 1909. The estate was substantial and stipulated that his 2 sons (administrators) divide everything equally between the"5 children". The sons were to continue the business and any profits be divided equally among the 5 children. Jacob's wife was deceased. The younger son, who had been sickly and an invalid since childhood committed suicide in Aug of 1910 by jumping off a "steel peer" in front of 1,000 spectators in Atlantic City, NJ and drowning himself at age 27. The remaining brother (48) died in Philadelphia in May of 1918. He overdosed on "bi-chloride of mercury" which he mistook his medicine. In Sep. of 1918, Walter is "Manager of Jacob Vickers Foreman Estate" hauling newsprint paper. He and his wife live on and eventually own the property at 4418 York Rd all the way through to the 1940 Census. In 1941, Walter & Virginia are living in Atlantic City ("City Dir") and he worked as a "teamster". Sources surrounding his death are a bit "murky". No obituary or death record (SSDI) could be located, only the "Mt.Moriah Cemetery Record" with internment date (Nov 20). His wife died 2 years later with a similar lack of sources. Because of their 1941 listing in and connections to Atlantic City NJ, I have a suspicion that they may have actually died there. He was born on the same day as fellow actor Lincoln Plumer. Some sources list the Walter Arthur Stull (1879-1961) as the actor. This is incorrect. |
