American child actor. His extracted birth record, WWII Draft, marriage certificate, and Death Certificate all spell his surname with a "K". Newspaper "blurbs" and publicity use either a "K" or "C".
Shortly after the 1920 Census, his parents moved to Orange County CA. They were all born in Iowa, including his sister, 15 years older and brother who was 5 years older. "Junior" (Charles Cassius Kavenaugh) was the youngest, born in CA. The Dad was a truck driver. "Junior" was enrolled in a dancing / singing / acting school and was performing publicly at events in the local Santa Ana area with good success by 1930. He was a dance partner of Betty Blossom Goble (who played in 2 Our Gang films around 1936) and they were dubbed "America's youngest 'collegiate' dance team". They eventually enrolled with Miss Estin Burks' Dance Studio for 4 years which led to their parts in Shirley Temple's film "Heidi" in 1937. She was Shirley's stand-in and he was Shirley's dance partner in a dream sequence. After graduating High School, Junior went to work for Douglas Aircraft Co. where his Dad was also employed. December 11, 1942, Junior enlisted in the US Navy and while in service in August 1944 he married Alice Elliot. After his honorable discharge he went back to school under his "G.I.Bill". While driving in Los Angeles on April 16, 1948, he was severely injured in a collision and died 2 days later. There are sources that give his birth and death dates as b. 21 September 1921 / d. 04 August 1994. |
