Jane Shipman

American actress, the mother of Lyle Tayo. Her actual first name was Jennie, but she alternately (and professionally) went by Jane, as confirmed by various entries in Los Angeles city directories. She also previously acted on the New York stage under the name Miss Jane Carew. She married Charles Frederick Shipman (1856-1906) on 9 February 1885 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; they had two daughters, Bernice (Shipman) Reynolds (1887-1958) and Lyle. They were separated at the time of Charles' 1906 death (a suicide, although this was contested by Bernice), after which Jennie/Jane never remarried. She is buried at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood, California.
