Elderly American actor. His parents were Esther L. (née Barton, 1852-1935) and William Henry Wells (1841-1911), and he had three siblings: Rosalie (Wells) Parlan (1873-1940), William Wesley Wells (1877-1903; a composer known as W. Wesley Wells), and Ida Mae (Wells) Carnes (1880-1942). He married Virginia Coombs (1876-1931) on 20 January 1894 in St. Louis, Missouri; she preceded him in death by a little over a year, on 27 September 1931 (after a 1-year, 3-month bout of tongue cancer).
After his own passing, Wells was cremated and his remains interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
