Hugh Fox

born: 17 October 1900
Nashville, Tennessee,
United States of America
died: 17 September 1936
National Military Home,
West Los Angeles, California,
United States of America
(heart disease/lung infarction, age 35)

American actor, a World War I veteran, whose other recurrent occupation in life was as a salesman. One of his siblings was film sound technician William R. Fox (1894-1950). Hugh had previously been selling hospital supplies for two years (beginning in 1933) before his admission into the West Los Angeles National Military Home in 1936, where he passed that September.
Hugh's death certificate and service records give his birth year as 1898, but earlier records point toward 1900 being the correct year. Most tellingly, Hugh is absent from the Fox family in the 1900 Census, taken in June, four months before his birth.
Another WWI veteran who passed away at the West Los Angeles National Military Home hospital in the same month as Hugh -- in fact, three days before Hugh's passing at the same facility -- was Nicholas Richard Block, film property man and husband of '20s Roach regular Vera White. Both men's services were held at around the same time at the Veterans Administration Facility's Protestant chapel.
Real name: Hugh Alexander Fox Jr.
