Black American Dixieland jazz musician, a contemporary of Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. He played piano, clarinet, and drums. The 1900 Census gives his birth date as January 1892; his WWI draft reg. card gives birth date as 05 April 1892. Some records and sources suggest he was born in Alabama, USA or Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.
