Tall American actor. He performed in over 240 stage plays, films, and TV programs usually as a villain including B-Westerns and "The 3 Stooges". While working on "King Kong" (1933) as a sailor in the crew, he broke his ankle and while in the hospital recovering for 2 weeks, he had an appendectomy. The newspapers reported that he had died!
In the late 1940's, he and several partners developed the movie location site called "Pioneertown", a permanent site for making western films and TV shows. Dick was the first president of the corporation (1947-49). He is buried in Culver City, California's Holy Cross Cemetery. |
