died:
05 May 1962 Burbank, California, United States of America (age 44) |
American child actor, the brother of Jack Campbell. Their father was Lloyd Campbell (1891-1937), a film editor and cutter who worked for the Hal Roach Studios as the "Our Gang" series' film cutter during the mid-late 1920s. By 1939, David was working as a railroad clerk. David served in World War II, reaching the rank of First Sergeant with the 247th Engineer Combat Battalion, Company C, and earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He settled in Tacoma, Washington after his discharge, where he served as a motorcycle officer with the city police department from 1945 to 1952, when he resigned. In 1955, he was arrested and convicted of lewdness and vagrancy after he had spent several months making "obscene telephone calls" to women claiming to be a "Dr. Morgan Jones" who was conducting a survey similar to the Kinsey Reports. In 1960, he was arrested for drunk driving. David was married three times, first to Ruth J. Chambers in 1939. Union #2 was to Sallie E. Johnson in 1946, which ended in divorce. His third and final knot-tying was to Fern C. Richardson in early 1961, just over a year before his death. David's obituary mentions two sons, David and John, though I'm currently not sure which of his marriages they came from. David passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California, after a long illness. He was interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California. |
