(cerebral thrombosis, age 65)

American silent screen actor and assistant director who worked in both capacities for Rolin/Hal Roach across several stints: the first as assistant director (possibly with some acting) early in the studio's life (sometime before fall 1916), then acting in several Rolin films of 1917, and finally pulling double-duty during 1923-25. During the third stint, he also served as studio purchasing agent.
After acting on the stage in Los Angeles stock, he began acting in films in 1915 with Reliance-Majestic, and also acted in films for Fine Arts and Fox. During World War I, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France, after which he returned to films. In the mid-1920s, Hopkins exited the motion picture industry completely and went into sales, joining the Pacific Pipe and Supply Company and serving as San Bernardino representative and later branch manager until the firm went out of business in 1933. In the spring of 1934, he joined the Pioneer-Flintkote Company, a manufacturer of roofing and paper materials, eventually landing in its sales department in 1938.
