It's now been 14 years since I created my website ANOTHER NICE MESS. During that time I have made so many discoveries, corrected previously-published errors, reviewed most of the Hal Roach library and personally created over 30,000 screenshots. The website has been viewed in over 200 countries and has been mentioned in over 70 publications. None of this has made me rich or famous and nor did I want it to. It was meant to just be a part-time project to pass the time. I basically designed a website from scratch and treated it like a sticker book where I would try and find the screenshot for each actor in each film that I could identify. It's been a lot of fun, a lot of frustration and I have both loved and despised doing it. But the best thing about making the site is making friends with a lot of new people. I know some of them will continue to be my friends OUTSIDE of the website even if I abandon doing it. If you are one of those people who has helped me in any way with regards to the site, whether it be in sending me information or images; allowing me to use material that you published in your book; cleaning posters; sending donations; supporting my work and spreading the word.... This website aims to cover review of films made by the Hal Roach Studios between 1914-1948; as well as the individual films featuring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Charley Chase and the post-Roach Our Gang short films. This is not a fan-made, kiss-ass website. I am NOT a "Laurel & Hardy fan" and my reviews are unbiased. Reviews and opinions herein are my own and occasionally contain very negative remarks which some people may find offensive.
